Terms and Conditions
Last updated: August 11, 2026
These terms apply to services performed by Neighbor Computer Services, Inc and to the use of our website. By leaving a device with us or requesting service, you agree to them.
1. Estimates and authorization
- Estimates are free on all services. We inspect the device and tell you what the repair involves and what it will cost before any work begins.
- We operate on a no fix, no fee basis. If we cannot repair your device, you owe us nothing for the diagnosis.
- Estimates are based on the symptoms reported and the initial inspection. The underlying cause of a fault is sometimes different from what the symptoms suggest.
- If a repair will cost more than the amount you approved, we will contact you before continuing. We will not exceed an approved amount without your authorization.
- Authorizing a repair means you confirm that you own the device or are authorized by the owner to have it serviced.
2. Your data and backups
This is the most important section of these terms, and we ask every customer to read it.
- You are responsible for backing up your data before leaving a device with us. We recommend making a backup even for repairs that are not expected to affect storage.
- Many repairs carry some risk to data. Devices brought to us are often already failing, and a component that is failing can stop working entirely during diagnosis or repair, through no fault of the work performed.
- We are not liable for the loss, corruption, or unavailability of data, software, or settings on a device serviced by us, except where the loss results from our own gross negligence or willful misconduct.
- Where a repair requires replacing or reformatting storage, we will tell you before proceeding.
- How we handle the data on your device is described in our Privacy Policy.
3. Data recovery
- Evaluation of a drive for data recovery is free. We will tell you what we believe is recoverable and what the recovery will cost before any work begins.
- No fix, no fee applies to data recovery as well. If we cannot recover your data, you owe us nothing.
- Data recovery is by its nature uncertain. Even when recovery succeeds, we cannot guarantee that every specific file will be recoverable.
- Recovery can require disassembly of the storage device, and a drive that has undergone a recovery attempt may not be usable afterward. We will tell you if this applies to your drive.
- Recovered data is returned on media that you supply or that we sell you. We hold a copy for 30 days after you collect your data, and then delete it.
- If a drive was previously opened, worked on elsewhere, or subjected to recovery software, the chance of successful recovery is reduced. We may decline the job or price it accordingly.
4. Parts
- We use new, refurbished, or aftermarket parts depending on availability, cost, and what is appropriate for the device. Manufacturer-original parts are not available for every model, particularly for older devices.
- We will tell you what type of part a repair uses if you ask.
- Parts replaced during a repair become our property unless you request their return when you approve the repair.
- Special-order parts require a deposit. The amount and the terms are explained and agreed with you at the time the part is ordered.
5. Warranty on repairs
- We warrant our workmanship and the parts we install for 90 days from the date you collect the device.
- The warranty covers failure of the specific part we installed and defects in the work we performed. If a warranted repair fails, bring the device back and we will correct it at no charge.
- Liquid damage repairs carry the same 90-day warranty as any other repair. When we take on a liquid damage job, we inspect the whole board and address anything likely to cause a problem later, rather than only the component that has failed.
- The warranty does not cover new physical damage, new liquid exposure after the repair, damage caused by another party servicing the device, software problems, malware, unrelated component failures, or normal wear on consumable parts such as batteries.
- The warranty is void if the device is opened or serviced by anyone else after our repair.
- This warranty is the only warranty we provide. To the extent permitted by law, we disclaim all other warranties, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose.
6. Turnaround time
Any timeframe we give is an estimate. Many repairs are completed the same day, but work can be delayed by parts availability, shipping, or faults discovered during the repair. We are not liable for losses resulting from a repair taking longer than estimated.
7. Payment and collection
- Payment is due in full when you collect the device. We do not release devices before payment.
- We accept cash, Visa, Mastercard, and Zelle. We do not accept personal checks.
- We will contact you at the details you provided when your device is ready. Please keep your contact information current with us.
8. Recycling program
- Equipment given to us for recycling becomes our property, and the transfer is final.
- If a device contains data you need, copy it or remove the storage drive before dropping the device off. We cannot retrieve data from equipment once it has entered the recycling process.
- We do not resell or pass on storage drives with customer data still on them.
9. Software and licensing
- We do not supply, install, or activate unlicensed software. Where a repair requires reinstalling an operating system or an application, you must hold a valid license.
- We are not responsible for software licenses, subscriptions, or account access that cannot be restored after a repair, including cases where a manufacturer’s activation lock prevents us from returning a device to service.
- We may decline to work on a device where we cannot confirm that service is authorized by its owner.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim arising out of a service is limited to the amount you paid us for that service. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including lost profits, lost business, lost data, or the cost of reconstructing data. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limitations, in which case they apply to the extent permitted.
11. Website use
- Content on this website is provided for general information. Repair advice published here is general and does not account for the condition of any specific device.
- Text, images, and design on this website are our property or used with permission and may not be reproduced without our consent.
- Prices and service descriptions shown on this website may change without notice.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The version in effect when you authorize a service is the version that applies to that service.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York. Any dispute arising under them will be brought in the state or federal courts located in New York.
