Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 11, 2026
Neighbor Computer Services respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit our website, contact us, or bring a device to one of our stores, how we use that information, and what choices you have. It applies to our website at www.neighborcomputer.com and to our repair locations in Flushing, Queens and Eastchester, Westchester.

1. Information we collect

Information you give us directly. When you fill out a form on our website, email us, call us, or bring in a device, we may collect your name, email address, phone number, the type of service you need, your preferred store location, details about your device, and a description of the problem you are experiencing.

Information collected automatically on our website. Like most websites, ours collects standard technical information through analytics and server logs, including your IP address, browser type, device type, the pages you view, how long you spend on them, and the website or search engine that referred you. We use Google Analytics for this purpose. This information is used in aggregate to understand how the site is used and is not used to identify you personally.

Information stored on the devices you bring to us. Repairing a computer or phone generally requires access to the device. Depending on the service, our technicians may need to start the device, run diagnostics, verify that a repair worked, or, in the case of data recovery, access and copy the contents of a storage drive. This means our technicians may be able to see files, photos, messages, and account information stored on your device.

Payment information. Payment is taken in person at our stores. We do not store full credit or debit card numbers, and our website does not process payments.

2. How we handle the data on your device

This is the part of our privacy practice that matters most to our customers, so we want to be direct about it

  • Our technicians access only what the repair requires. We do not browse your personal files out of curiosity, and we do not copy your data for any purpose other than performing the service you requested.
  • For data recovery, and for repairs that carry a risk of data loss, we may create a copy or image of your storage drive. We keep that copy for 30 days after you collect your data, and then delete it.
  • You remain responsible for backing up your own data before service. Repairs sometimes require replacing or reformatting storage, and hardware that is already failing can fail completely during service. We will tell you when a repair carries data-loss risk, but we cannot guarantee your data.
  • We do not sell, share, or publish anything found on a customer device.
  • If we encounter material that we are required by law to report, we will comply with that obligation.

If you would prefer that we not access your data at all, tell us when you drop off the device. For many repairs we can work without signing in to your accounts, and for some we can work with the storage drive removed.

3. How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Respond to your questions and provide estimates
  • Perform the repair or service you requested and contact you about its status
  • Keep a service history so that we can honor warranties and understand a device’s prior repairs
  • Process payments and issue receipts
  • Send you service-related notices, such as when a device is ready for pickup
  • Send occasional email updates or offers, if you have asked to receive them
  • Understand how our website is used so that we can improve it
  • Meet our legal and accounting obligations

4. Cookies and website analytics

Our website uses cookies and similar technologies. Some are necessary for the site to function. Others support Google Analytics, which helps us understand which pages and services visitors are interested in.

You can control cookies through your browser settings, including blocking them or deleting existing ones. Blocking cookies may affect how parts of the site work. You can also opt out of Google Analytics using the browser add-on that Google provides for that purpose.

5. Email communications

If you contact us through a form on our website, we store your submission and your contact details so that we can respond and keep a record of the request.

We only add you to a marketing email list if you have asked us to. Every marketing email we send includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect for all marketing messages. We will still send you messages directly related to a repair you have with us, such as pickup notifications.

6. When we share information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for anyone else’s marketing purposes. We share information only in these situations:

  • Service providers that operate our systems. Our website host, email delivery service, analytics provider, and payment processor each handle limited information on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
  • Parts suppliers and shipping carriers. When a repair requires ordering a part, we share only what is needed to complete that order.
  • Manufacturers and warranty providers. If your repair goes through a manufacturer warranty process, we share the information that process requires.
  • Legal requirements. We may disclose information when required by law, subpoena, or court order, or where necessary to protect our rights, our property, or the safety of others.
  • Business transfer. If the business is sold or merged, customer records may transfer as part of that transaction.

7. How long we keep information

We keep work orders and service records for at least seven years, and often longer, as a permanent service history. This is what allows us to honor warranties years after a repair and to understand what has previously been done to a device.

Copies of customer data created during data recovery, or as a precaution before a repair, are deleted on the shorter 30-day schedule described in Section 2.

Website analytics data is retained according to the settings in our analytics account.

8. Security

We take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold, including physical security at our stores, restricted access to customer records, and secure handling of devices left in our care. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Your choices and rights

You may at any time:

  • Ask what personal information we hold about you
  • Ask us to correct information that is inaccurate
  • Ask us to delete your information, subject to records we are required to keep
  • Unsubscribe from marketing email
  • Ask us to limit how we access data on a device you bring in

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under your state’s privacy laws, including the right to know what information we collect and the right to opt out of its sale. We do not sell personal information. To make a request, contact us using the details at the end of this policy. We may need to verify your identity before acting on it.

10. Children

Our website is intended for adults and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Links to other websites

Our website links to other sites, including our Google Business Profile listings and manufacturer resources. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites, and we encourage you to read their policies.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
